Choosing a Destination Wedding Videographer

How to choose a videographer for your destination wedding

Choosing someone to document one of the biggest days of your life is hard enough, but when it comes to potentially doing so in an unfamiliar location, the task can seem even more daunting. Of course, there are steps you can take to ensure that you’re choosing the perfect videographer for your nuptials abroad. To help you to get your videography sorted, here are a few things to consider as you work on crossing this important task off your checklist.

Spain Wedding Video

Consider their location

Perhaps one of the hardest decisions to make in your search for the perfect videographer is whether to hire someone local and familiar to you, or take a leap of faith and hire someone abroad.

Both have their perks, and ultimately, it really depends on the personal preference of the engaged couple. While it may feel easier to book a videographer based at home, this can leave you with plenty more to organise in the lead up to your big day – particularly when it comes to figuring out how your vendor will travel to and from your chosen destination.

By opting to book a videographer who is based near your venue, you’re likely to find that you save plenty of time and money. Plus, it can be reassuring to know that your videographer has experience shooting your chosen location. Many couples are even surprised to discover just how easy it is to come across a great videographer in an unfamiliar location, by performing a simple internet search.

Read their reviews

You don’t want to go into this decision blind, so it’s always best to take note of previous couples’ experiences when booking your destination wedding videographer. Usually, you’ll be able to find plenty of testimonials on their website, however, it’s important to take a look at the reviews on more unbiased search engines too. You’ll want to make sure that you pay special attention to destination wedding reviews, so that you’re getting a true picture of how their service may be able to work for you.

Usually, a videographer with great reviews will be easy to find – they’re likely to openly celebrate their previous successes, and won’t be afraid to display plenty of written client reviews. It’s always a great bonus if you can see that they’ve interacted with their customers’ comments, and seem eager to improve the service that they provide.

Don’t forget that just because something didn’t work for one couple, it doesn’t mean that it won’t work for you and your partner – it’s best not to take every review at face value, and to take plenty of time to make mindful, informed choices.

Check their experience

Just like a great history of reviews, plenty of experience is a sign that your wedding videographer is a safe bet and knows what they’re doing when it comes to documenting a destination wedding.

In order to ensure that your videographer has the experience that you’re looking for, it’s a good idea to take a look at previous snippets of their work. Usually, these will be displayed on their website, but you may be able to find them on social media too. If in doubt, you can always ask your videographer directly to see a sample of their work, and have a chat about other destination weddings they’ve worked on in the past.

Leave plenty of time to make a decision

This decision is an important one, so it’s essential that you don’t rush into it. After all, your wedding videographer, alongside your photographer, is responsible for creating a record of one of the most special days of your life. To ensure that you’re making the right choice, you’ll want to leave plenty of time to tackle this crucial task. This way, you’re guaranteed to find a destination wedding videographer with all the great experience and skills that you’re after, and ultimately come out of your big day with a stunning wedding video that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Dream of a Spanish wedding …

Three Spanish wedding destinations that’ll make for a stunning wedding video

Imagine walking down the aisle, a warm scented breeze in the air, your friends and family sitting against a stunning natural backdrop, before dancing the night away under the stars. If that sounds appealing to you, then Spain could be the perfect fit for your upcoming nuptials.

Whether you’re already based in this beautiful country or want to jet off to Spain for a destination wedding, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to your ceremony location. From bustling towns that give you access to prime eating spots for your reception, to secluded beaches for a low-key, intimate ceremony, there’s something for everyone. In this post, we list three of our favourite locations to spark your imagination and kick off your planning.

Marbella

One of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain, Marbella is the perfect choice for couples looking to combine their wedding celebrations with a longer holiday with their guests, or perhaps their honeymoon. If you’re going to have a large guest list, it’s well worth choosing an established destination like this – not only will everyone be able to find accommodation, but you’ll also have a larger range of vendors to choose from

The combination of beaches, mountains and traditional white houses will make for an amazing backdrop for your wedding video and photos, truly capturing the essence of Spain. If you’re inviting just a handful of guests, you could even consider hiring a villa for everyone to stay at, allowing your videographer in Marbella to capture the lead up to the ceremony as well as the main event.

Ibiza

Whilst Ibiza has historically had a reputation for being a party capital, it’s actually a tranquil, romantic place if you know where to look. If you want a boho, relaxed destination wedding, then it’s a great choice. The international vibe of the island means that there are plenty of multilingual celebrants available, and you can create a truly personalised celebration.

The lush natural beauty of the island is a photographer’s dream. Consider getting married outside of peak summer holiday months, where you’ll be able to enjoy an element of seclusion and reduce the chance of getting members of the public in your wedding videos.

Mallorca

If you want to slow down and savour your wedding celebrations at your own pace, then look no further than Mallorca. The island encourages a simpler way of life, so you can put your love and commitment front and centre – it’s less about fancy decorations and more about spending precious quality time with your friends and family.

The rugged mountain ranges, azure water and large beach bays mean that you can get some truly amazing wedding photos and videos. It’s also home to some amazing vineyards, which can make excellent wedding venues. Talk to your videographer and be prepared to go off-road – the contrast of your white wedding dress against the green of the hills is not something you’ll want to miss.

Bliss in Bordeaux…

CHATEAU RIGAUD WEDDING // EMILY AND PHILIP

If you venture an hour east of Bordeaux, you’ll find yourself deep in the vineyards. You’ll know you’ve arrived once you see signage pointing towards a plethora of wine-tasting excursions in-between each town and village. This was exactly where, at the beginning of summer, Emily and Philip celebrated their love story at the beautiful Chateau Rigaud in Bordeaux. This was also my first time as a wedding videographer in France and wow it was such a pleasure.

I arrived a couple of days before the wedding itself to explore the area and capture some footage of the vineyards in all their glory. The Rigaud team offer a few different excursions for wedding parties for the the days leading up-to the special day. Some are perfect way to relax, whereas some, like canoeing, are perfect for the more adventurous.

The morning of the began when preparations began. Emily and her bridal party got ready in the tower of the chateau while Philip and his party enjoyed their morning on the other side of the chateau.

A wedding ceremony delivered by a close friend is, in my opinion, pretty special. They know you better than any celebrant ever could, for this reason this ceremony was one of my favourites of the year. This freedom allowed them to enjoy their ceremony however they desired. A close friend delivered a beautiful ceremony, right In the gardens of the chateau. Pure bliss.

With the ceremony over, everyone headed back to the chateau veranda for mouth watering canapes and perhaps a few more glasses of champagne. In the meantime, the fabulous team at Rigaud were working hard to craft a  stunning dining room where heartfelt, funny speeches preceded a stunning feast. Party time to follow.

Following dinner guests began to wander and enjoy the shade of the trees in the courtyard, shielded from the sunshine but warmed by the breeze. A first dance accompanied by sparklers whilst the sun went down was exactly (maybe even better) than it sounds.

This outrageously stunning Chateau Rigaud wedding was one I won’t forget. I was lucky to be heading to Vallery, France to film another fabulous destination wedding just a few days after! Emily and Philip: I wish you both a lifetime of happiness. Congratulations on crafting your dream wedding in France. I consider myself truly lucky to have been your destination wedding videographer.

Au revoir!

Enjoy the Film! Reece

The Amphitheatre

Tanjila and Anup’s charming destination wedding, Tuscany, Italy. Last year I had the absolute honour of filming a stunning wedding at La Selva Giardino del Belvedere.

I’ve known Tanjila and Anup since meeting them at the wedding of Simon & Taj in Spain, where I was the videographer for their wedding in Marbella. We all flew over a couple of days before the wedding day which was a brilliant opportunity for me to get to know the area and the different locations, and get to know their thoughts on the day.

I already knew that they wanted their wedding videography to be natural, relaxed, and cinematic so this matched my style perfectly!

wedding-videographer-marbella

The wedding took place at La Selva Giardino del Belvedere, Cavriglia, Tuscany…..a beautiful Tuscan villa tucked away in the Chianti Hills, trapped  by olive groves and woods, with a rustic ampitheatre set back from the villa used for an intimate wedding ceremony.

Tanjila & Anup (with the help of Francesco, whose parents built the villa from all-ethical materials) designed all the decor which was a hit with everyone present. Arrival of the guests was dotted throughout the day, everyone was there by the evening, and tucking into a plethora of tasty food!

Makeup and hair dressing took place upstairs in the Villa whilst Anup and his entourage got ready at a separate villa just a stones throw away. Despite the years of planning and anxiety building up to the day, Tanjila & Anup both seemed fairly relaxed (on the outside!) and definitely took everything in their stride on the big day.The speeches were emotional and heartfelt, and dancing under stars at La Selva in the Chianti Hills countryside was just as good as it sounds.

Château Love Story

Whisking away to France for a destination wedding is about as romantic as it gets. Pop the champagne and get lost in the perfectness of this gorgeous Château De Vallery wedding! Seun & Toye chose me as their destination wedding videographer and I was thrilled by their decision.

The love between Seun & Toye comes through in the film and I am thrilled to have captured so many intimate moments between them throughout this special day. Their 300 guests came from all over the world, but predominantly London & Nigeria. Guests included politicians, celebrities and of course the amazing families & friends of the lovely couple.

This chateau is stunning and an absolutely perfect location to host a wedding or event. Both the grounds and chateau are in immaculate condition. There are a variety of different spaces which can be used for different parts of the event and no real restrictions on how you use them – the chateau are very accommodating.

Each of the guest bedrooms are beautifully furnished and finished to a very high standard, excellently maintained and all have their own character, which is evident in the film (at the bottom of this page).

When You Smile …

It was a joy to witness Simon & Taj get married at their El cortijo de los caballos wedding in Spain under the trees and have an unforgettable experience on their special day. Being their wedding videographer in Spain was such a pleasure.

The secret ceremonial garden was tucked away at the far end of the venue and was the perfect setting for this wedding ceremony. After the ceremony guests headed to the lagoon style swimming pool area for drinks & canopies.

The evening dance & party area was located in the main terrace with shelter, and a morrocan style chill out area outdoors to lay out after one too many drinks! Decorated with fairy lights, candles and Moroccan lanterns, this area provided a great backdrop for the evenings entertainment.

El Cortijo de los Caballos is a 14 bed private Villa near Marbella, available for weddings and other special occasions. The venue is managed by the brilliant Rachel Rose Weddings. This stunning villa is one of the last true Cortijos left in the surrounding area, it has easy access from a close by main road and is close to Estepona, Marbella, Benhavis and other quaint Spanish villages, and of course the beautiful beaches of the Costa Del Sol.

The eclectic mix of Spanish and Moroccan décor sleeps 28 guests plus extra beds, but there are plenty of options in the surrounding areas for larger wedding parties.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Kino Ortega on the day, who is an amazing photographer based in Malaga. Kino also has a great blog about the day and the venue which you can read here.
